The Phoenix Organization Donates $8288 to BBBS
Held in October 2009, the annual Runathon at SCI-Cambridge Springs raised $8288.18 for Big Brothers and Sisters of Crawford County, Inc. The donation was generated by 234 inmates who ran 2185.6 miles (8746 laps) and concession sales. Focusing on the theme “Making a Difference One Step at a Time,” forty-six women achieved at least 13 miles or a half marathon. Eighteen women achieved at least 26 miles or a full marathon. One hundred and one women achieved at least 10 miles.
The Phoenix Organization is an inmate group which holds special fundraisers throughout the year. The profits from these events are funneled back to the community through the Runathon.
According to Heather Albaugh, SCI– Cambridge Springs employee. “A lot of the inmates see this as a way to make a positive difference. It’s a lot of work to raise the money, organize the event and participate in it. However, the impact and reward for both Agencies is tremendous and well worth it.”
The check was presented to Big Brothers and Sisters at the November ceremony. Since 1998, over $61,000 has been donated to BBBS from this event.
BBBS is grateful to be selected to receive this generous donation!Bowl for Kids’ Sake 2010
